HANDHELD 3D
LIDAR SCANNING
THE 3D SCANNING PROCESS
- Scanning can be executed on components of any colour. The scanners used are mobile and highly versatile. We can scan components with a size range of 30mm³ - 5m, with an accuracy of up to 0,04mm.
- Larger objects can be scanned in sections and then stitched together using specialised software.
- Whether it be an out-of-production car part or a detailed tooling insert, the capabilities of high-end 3D scanning technology have changed the way we approach digital fabrication.

COMPARISON
& REPORT
- SA Draughting makes use of the 3D point clouds to verify against the intended design.
- A report is generated highlighting all deviations. This can be displayed visually on the report.
ENSURING
ACCURATE RESULTS
By making use of 3D scanning we can ensure the best quality and highest accuracy to the end user, saving you time and money.
3D MODELING
FROM POINT
CLOUD DATA
- SA Draughting utilizes the 3D model to create 2D manufacturing drawings.
- The 3D models can be exported to over 30 different file formats for use in various CAD software.

GENERATED
POINT CLOUD
Once the 3D scanning process is complete, the scanner’s software processes and generates a 3D point cloud of the component. This digital twin generated can be used for measuring and verification. SA Draughting uses these point clouds for 3D modelling and report generation.

CLASH DETECTION
Clash detection allows the client to test the design against the existing environment to ensure it is both, robust and practical.
In this way, any identified clash can be eliminated cost-effectively at the design stage, in contrast to its discovery on site
triggering costly time delays and material expenses.

- Employing scanning technology for construction verification ensures that the design concept is being carried out on site. Highlighting any deviations from the design at an early stage means that potential issues can be designed out.
- It may be advisable to scan the object multiple times along the construction process, at the end of particular phases as the various construction-related work teams complete their works e.g., structural completion, installation of MEP and Fit-out.
- When working within the BIM environment, the data collected in this way can also be used in connection with the design to update the model on a continuous basis. This, in turn, leads to a far more accurate as-built model to be delivered to the client upon completion.
- Cloud to cloud comparisons can also be performed allowing the client to understand changes that affected the site over an extended time period.
